Shaving
At some point in their lives, almost everyone shaves. When children begin puberty, hair will get thicker and start growing under the arms, on the face (for boys) and in the pubic region. That means shaving is right around the corner. But shaving is a bit of a mystery to kids, and they can easily hurt themselves, so be sure to show your child how to do it.
Following are a few shaving tips for your child – and you:
- Thoroughly wet the area to be shaved. Don’t ever shave dry skin.
- Use shaving lotion or gel to help the razor slide smoothly.
- Don’t press too hard with the razor when gliding over the skin. If you do, you risk shaving off some skin.
- Use a disposable razor or a razor with a disposable blade, and change it often. It’s easy to cut yourself with a dull blade.
- Keep the skin relaxed while shaving. Don’t pull it tight.
For the inevitable shaving cut, press a cloth against the skin until the bleeding stops.
