Thickening Skin and Enlarged Nose
Treatments used for thickening skin and an enlarged nose include:
- Lasers – There are several different types of lasers used for the treatment of some symptoms associated with rosacea, including thickened skin and an enlarged nose. These lasers peel away the top layers of skin, which heals with a smoother texture. After treatment, patients commonly experience redness, swelling and open wounds for approximately one week. Some changes in skin pigment may occur after an aggressive treatment. While these procedures may be offered in informal settings such as at shopping malls, spas and walk-in clinics, it’s important for patients to choose an experienced health care provider. The treatments should be performed by or under the direct supervision of a dermatologist or other physician who has appropriate training and expertise.
- Electrocautery – The hot tip of a low-powered electrical device is used to scrape off thickened skin. Redness, bruising and swelling might get worse for a day or so.
- Dermabrasion – A fast-moving brush removes the thickened surface skin. When it heals, the new skin looks smoother. It may change the skin’s pigment.
