Signs and Symptoms of Rosacea
There are four main categories of rosacea signs and symptoms. You may have one or more than one.
- Redness, flushing and visible blood vessels – The face is persistently red, and there is a tendency to flush or blush readily. Small blood vessels may be visible, and the skin may burn or itch.
- Bumps and pimples – In addition to a red face, there are red bumps, some of which may contain pus. The bumps often look like acne.
- Thickening skin and enlarged nose – The skin on the nose is persistently red, becomes thicker, and may develop knobby bumps. This gives the nose a bulbous appearance. (President Bill Clinton has rosacea as did comedian W.C. Fields.)
- Eye problems – Rosacea also can affect the eyes and is called ocular rosacea. The symptoms include bloodshot, burning and stinging eyes, and swollen and irritated eyelids.
