Lice

Head lice infestations are quite common in schools. Having lice doesn’t mean your child or other kids in the class are dirty. In fact, head lice love clean hair. Head lice generally don’t hurt you or your child, but they make the head itchy, and an extreme amount of hard scratching can create sores on the scalp that may lead to an infection. Although less common, there are two other types of lice – body lice and pubic lice. Body lice infestations usually are related to poor hygiene and are more likely to occur among in people who live in crowded situations. Body lice can spread disease, including typhus, trench fever and relapsing fever. Pubic lice are most often spread by sexual contact.
